Homeward Bound

“They’re planning something,” William stated softly as he watched his sons.  All of them were huddled around Hannibal, whispering softly.  Well, except for Blair, who sat in Drake’s lap playing with the First’s fingers.

Simon nodded, biting down on his unlit cigar.  “Yup.”

“Should we be worried?”

“Yup.”

They were getting ready to head back to Cascade.  All of them. William smiled.  This family was ever evolving.  It made his heart burst with happiness.  Having a big family was a dream come true.

He turned to Rodney, who sat at the table, typing furiously.  “Rodney?”

The scientist didn’t even look up. “Yeah?”

“Do you know what’s going on with my sons?”

Rodney snorted.  “Of course I do.  I’m not only a brilliant scientist; I’m a really good Sentinel.” The once noisy room became silent.  Rodney stopped typing to see what had happened.  He found five very young pairs of eyes staring at him and one vampire hunter shooting daggers.  “I wouldn’t.  I swear I wouldn’t,” He said hastily.  Hannibal could seriously hurt him.  “I know how to keep secrets.”

“When your big mouth doesn’t slip you up,” Steven replied from his spot right next to Hannibal.

Rodney swallowed heavily, moving closer to his Guide.  “Y…yeah, but there’s a lot of incentive to keep quiet.”

Hannibal showed him a flash of teeth.  “Oh, and what could that be?”

“You’ve got a big gun.”

“Yeah, I do and I’m not afraid to use it.  Something you shouldn’t forget.”

Rodney swallowed again, practically crawling into John’s lap.  “I…I won’t.”

“Good.”

“Rodney?”

The Sentinel turned to look at his Guide.  “Y…yes, John?” he asked nervously.

“Are you keeping secrets from me?”  John asked, softly, winking at William.  “You’re not supposed to keep secrets from your Guide.

Rodney looked around the room nervously.  Everyone was watching him curiously.  Except Hannibal, who was looking at him menacingly.   “Hmm, maybe.  A little one,” He hedged, holding up his thumb and forefinger to within a half an inch from each other.

“Hmm, but to keep secrets…”

Rodney moved closer, burying his face against John’s neck.  John tilted it obligingly.  “Love you.  Lots,” he whispered softly.

John chuckled, green eyes sparkling happily.  He rubbed his Sentinel’s back soothingly.  “Love you, too,” he replied. “Nice save by the way.”  He released scent, earning him some happy purring.

William shook his head, smiling.  “Sentinel and their Guides.  Always entertaining.”

“Hmm,” Simon replied, nibbling on the edge of his cigar.  “Not to mention kids who aren’t as innocent as they seem.”

William looked over at his boys who were once again whispering urgently with Hannibal, who gave him the most endearing smile he’d ever seen.  “Not only kids.”

Simon nodded when Steven punched Hannibal in the arm, regaining his attention.  “I’d say.  Should we be worried that they’ve included Hannibal in their little gang?”

“No, if anything Hannibal will protect them, if they need it.”

“Or get in as much trouble as they do.”

William chuckled.  “True.  In this family, things are never dull.”

“Truer words were never spoken.  Are Lorne and Ronan going to met us in Cascade?”

“Yes.  Steven wants to make sure that their bond is progressing as it should. I think he’s just worried that Ronan will still be too rough with Lorne.”

Simon and William watched the boys’ antics for a while. Blair and Drake were now laying on the bed, with the little Guide resting against the First’s chest, sleeping.  The urgent whisperings of the other boys were not bothering him in the least.

Drake rubbed the tiny back gently with his big hands, staring up at the ceiling lost in his own thoughts.  The noise in the room didn’t seem to affect him either.

After about five minutes, Jim crawled onto the same bed and was quickly gathered close against the First’s side. Lee followed, just as quickly gathered close.  Lastly Rafe climbed on the bed and took a position close to Lee, with his face pressed against Lee’s back, close to his Guide’s heart.

William continued to watch as all their eyes began to slowly close as they drifted into sleep.  The only ones not napping were Steven, Michael and Hannibal, who continued to talk amongst themselves.  Quieter this time.

He wondered what they were talking about, but he wouldn’t question them about it.  If they wanted him to know, they would tell him.  He figured eventually he’d find out about it either way. He knew that whatever it was, it was going to be interesting.

Hannibal went up to Drake, who stood in the living room of what used to be their home.  “Are we ready to head out to Cascade?”

The First nodded.  “Yes.”

“Didn’t forget the cat?”  Hannibal laughed at the look Drake gave him.  “Just checking.”

“Draco does not like the cage, but he will be alright.  Are you done conferring with the children?”

“Yeah.”

Drake smiled at Hannibal.  “Secrets from me as well, Hannibal King?”

“Hmm, just a little one.  They wanted to be sure that they have an emergency fund to fall back on in case something goes wrong.  Nothing major.”

Drake pulled Hannibal to him.  His human came to him willingly, which always surprised the vampire.  No one had ever come to him willingly, or even sought his touch the way Hannibal did.

“Are they secure?”  Drake asked, as he nuzzled a warm neck, enjoying the flow of warm blood just beneath the surface.

“More than.  Those kids could live for a long time on what Jim won them in the casino.  Some small countries don’t make in a year what he won in one night.”

Drake angled Hannibal’s neck to allow for more nuzzling, feeling hunger begin to take hold.  He could wait to feed, though, until his human was ready.

“He is a Sentinel.  A true blessing for mankind.  Everything that I am not.”

“You’re not that bad,” Hannibal replied, running his hands over a very broad back to cup firm buttocks.  “You’re really nice, actually.”

Drake flexed his butt, earning a chuckle from Hannibal.  “I’m glad you think so.”

“I do.”

Drake allowed his fangs to extend, running them over the warm flesh of Hannibal’s neck, feeling the human shiver at the dangerous touch.  “Hmm.”

“Are you hungry, lover?”

“Yes.”

Hannibal’s hands came up to curve over Drake’s soft hair, pulling him close against him.  “Feed then.”

Drake did as he was bid, sliding his fangs deep into the soft flesh of Hannibal’s shoulder, making his human moan in a mixture of pleasure and pain.

The First drank for a long time,. keeping the flow of Hannibal’s warm, sweet blood slow.  He enjoyed the richness on his tongue, as well as the body trembling in his arms.

When he retracted his fangs, he licked at the tiny wounds with his tongue.  He smiled when Hannibal bucked in his arms, giving a startled sounded he’d never heard his lover make before.  Hannibal rested his head on Drake’s shoulder, trying to catch his breath.  The First waiting patiently as he rocked them both.

Finally pulling away slowly, Drake chuckled at the look on Hannibal’s face.  “What?” he asked softly, knowing exactly why the human was looking at him that way.

“Y…you made me come in my pants,” Hannibal told him breathlessly.

Drake ran a finger down his lovers face.  “Didn’t you like it, Hannibal King?”

“Hell yeah, I liked it.  You just got me by surprise.  Now I’m going to have to shower and change before we leave, or the kids are going to get ideas they’re way too young for.”

Drake pulled Hannibal against his body.  “Would you like me to join you, Hannibal King?”

Hannibal met the blue eyes watching him with affection.  “Just for a shower, or you got something else in mind?”

The First cupped the human’s buttock.  “Something else.  Definitely something else.”

“Are you going to make me scream?”

“Oh, yes.”

Hannibal smiled at him.  “You got a deal.  I like it when you make me scream.”

Drake chuckled as he pulled the human toward the bathroom.  “Oh, I know, Hannibal King.  I know.”

“Are you sure you want to do this?”  Hannibal asked Drake as they watched the Ellison boys fighting over who would ride with who.  “Cascade is a ways away and they’re a handful.”

Drake smiled as he saw Steven punch Rafe hard on the shoulder when the other boy shoved him in an effort to get the prime spot next to William Ellison.  “It is nice to watch and life affirming.”

“Watching boys fight?”   Hannibal winced when Rafe took Steven down and they began rolling around in the parking lot.

“Yes.”

As the others ran to break them up, Blair carefully climbed up into the car and sat next to his father.  By the time the fight broke up Blair had his seatbelt buckled and was giving them all a brilliant smile as if daring them to try and take his spot.

They all scattered to the other two cars, grumbling to themselves.  Not one of them was willing to take the little Guide up on his dare, which earned chuckles from all the adults.

“I guess I’ll go with you guys,” Steven told Hannibal and Drake grudgingly.

“What, we got the plague or something?”  Hannibal asked in annoyance.  “Besides, is it my fault the car place didn’t have any more vans to rent?”

“Yeah, the whole world’s ills are your fault,” Steven told him, blue eyes shining brightly in the morning sun.  “And to top it off, you smell funny.”

Hannibal glared at him.  “I don’t smell funny.”  He turned to Drake.  “Do I smell funny to you?”

Drake breathed deep.  “Perhaps a little,” he replied, winking at Steven, who chuckled softly.

“Huh, I didn’t know vampires could tell jokes,” Hannibal said with a frown.

“They don’t.”

Hannibal looked at him, trying to see if the First was telling the truth.  Drake looked at him seriously.  Not a hint of a smile touched his sensual lips.  No hint of what he was feeling, except his blue eyes, which were twinkling happily.

“Huh.  You know what that means, right?”  He asked, watching as Steven climbed in right next to the cat.

“What?”

Hannibal moved closer, making sure Steven couldn’t hear.  “You won’t be getting any tonight.”

Drake reached out a hand and ran a finger down the side of his human’s face.  “Of course I will.”

Hannibal sighed unhappily.  “Yeah, you probably will.  Shit, I’m easy.”

“Come on, hurry up.  You guys move like turtles.  Everyone else is in their cars.  Hurry up.  If I can’t be with dad, at least we can be the lead car.  Hurry the fuck up.”

Hannibal turned to glare at Steven.  “Watch your mouth boy. Or…”

“Or what?”  Steven asked curiously, not in the least bit intimated by the Vampire Hunter or the First.

“I’ll think of something, wise-ass.”

“Ooooh, I’m so afraid.  Come on let’s go.  Let’s go.”

“You’re in that much of a hurry to get back to Cascade?”  Hannibal asked as he got into the driver’s seat.

“Yeah, it’s time to go home.  Interesting things are going to happen.  I can feel it.  Let’s go home.”
