Note:  Here I was happily wandering through live journals, looking at pretty icons (yes, I have a serious icon problem. I plan on seeking help soon.  Not really, but it sounded good) (o: when I happen to come across a picture of Rodney and someone who at first glance looked like Lex.  Second glance said it wasn’t. The muses happily wandering with me sat straighter and started laughing gleefully.  I tried running, but they caught me.  Dang it. (o:

An Uncommon Love

“Shit.”

Rodney knelt on the floor picking up the papers that had been sent flying by the clumsy oaf that had run into him.

To busy gathering his papers before they got trampled beyond recognition he didn’t see the figure kneeling next to him.

“Can I help?”

Rodney sighed.  Really hating having been sent to Washington to attend a scientific conference for the army.  “Only if you can take me away from this den of piranhas before all that’s left of me are my bleached bones.”

The man laughed offering a handful of crumpled papers.  “I think that might be arranged, Dr Rodney McKay.”

“You know me?”

Rodney looked up in surprise to see the most elegant man he’d ever seen in his life smirking at him.  It kind of reminded him of a cocky pilot he knew.

The man was elegance personified.  Pale to the point of being almost translucent.  Bald with the prettiest blue eyes Rodney had ever seen. Pretty as those blue eyes were, they held a deep sadness.

“Well, not really, but I’d like, too.”

Rodney frowned.  “What does that mean?”

The bald man pointed to Rodney’s chest.  He looked down to see his name tag.  He rolled his eyes.  “Geez.  I think I need to get some food.  I’m going brain dead all of a sudden.  And for me that would be quite an accomplishment.”

“You do look a little peaked.  Would you like to have lunch with me?”

“You noticed?  I’m starved.  All I had for breakfast was a stale muffin.  I didn’t even get to enjoy my coffee, not that it would have been enjoyable anyway.  It was rather nasty,” Rodney complained dramatically.  “I’d love some lunch,” he added awkwardly at the quizzical look he was being given.

The man smiled at him.  “Let’s get you taken care of then,” he replied, offering him a hand up.

“Do you always offer complete strangers lunch?”  Rodney asked, taking the hand.

“Only when they fall to their knees before me.  Which can give a guy like me many rather pleasant ideas.

Rodney smiled.  “Are you by any chance flirting with me?”  Very much liking the idea if it was maybe, hopefully-true.  The man was a true beauty.  But what were the chances of that.  Rodney was a geek personified.  Very few people wanted a geek for their beautiful brains.

He was given a speculative look.  “Do you want me to be?”

“Hell, yeah.  You’re gorgeous.” Rodney chuckled when the man blushed.

“Maybe we could start with lunch and work from there.”

Rodney nodded.  “Alright.  Lead the way.”

Leading the way meant traveling by limo to a rather expensive hotel.  Which by no means resembled the Holiday Inn, where the conference was being held.   Though Rodney thought Holiday Inn Express were kinda nice.  But this hotel outdid them by a million to one.

It also meant bring lead up to a very posh hotel room and served a meal Rodney had only dreamed about and never, ever expected to have.

When Rodney had explained about his deadly allergy to citrus an eyelash hadn’t even been batted.  A simple nod was given before an order was placed with a very attentive waiter.

During lunch Rodney found out the man’s name to be Alexander Luthor.  A name he recognized right off.

A billionaire who ran his own company called LexCorp.  Brilliant as he was beautiful.  So smart, if the papers were to be believed it rivaled Rodney’s genius.

Alexander was here to buy a multi-million dollar corporation. Also according to the papers Rodney had read while in Washington.

Rodney found him to be charming, with a biting sense of humor, smart, sexy as hell.  And very, very appealing. Someone that appealed not only to his body, but to his mind as well.  Something that had not happened in a long time.

Yet as he watched and listened to Alexander talk he couldn’t help but be touched by the sadness he wore around him like a cloak.  Something had hurt him deeply.

Something Rodney could only speculate on.  He watched him closely as he told him about his exploits with incompetent scientists.  Alexander smiled, but it never seemed to reach his eyes.

“So when the fire marshal asked how the fire got started you should have seen the look on Kavanagh’s face.  It was priceless.”

Alexander took a drink of his water.  “I bet.”

“So Alexander, what do you do when you’re not making gazillions of dollars?”

The blue eyes widened in surprise.”  You know about me?”

Rodney waved his hands around impatiently. Something that was observed with great interest.  “Genius here, with nothing but twits to hang out with who claim to know about science and really don’t, so I’d rather not-hang out with them, I mean. I was truly bored so I read a lot of the local newspapers.  They really weren’t talking about much else, Alexander.”

“Call me Lex.”

“I don’t think so.”

“Why not.”

“You are Alexander. It fits.  I don’t see you as anything less.”

“Oh,” Alexander gave a slight smirk.  Reminding Rodney again of a certain pilot who was at the moment in a galaxy far, far away.

“So Rodney?”

“Yes, Alexander?”

“How long do you plan in being in the beautiful city of Washington?”

Rodney ran his finger along the edge of his coffee cup.  “One long and destined to be very boring week.”

“One week?  That’s not much time,” Alexander whispered, with a hint of disappointment.

“Much time for what?”

“To get to know one another,” Alexander replied, smiling rather shyly.  Something Rodney thought quite endearing.

He moved his finger off his coffee cup.  Running it across the back of Alexander’s hand, he said, softly. “It’s time enough.”

What followed Rodney was hard pressed to believe at times.  It could almost have come out of one of those romance novels Elizabeth loved so much.  Including the hot, at times steaming sex.

Alexander loved to ride him.  Moving above him slowly for what felt like hours.  Until it almost got painful.  Rodney gently stroking the pale, soft skin of his chest and abdomen.  It was during those times that the sadness in Lex’s eyes seemed to leave.

Alexander’s bald head thrown back as he moved above Rodney.  Lost in the passion, in the lust, but never forgetting that he wasn’t alone in the sixteen hundred dollar a night room.  In a bed that felt to Rodney what it would feel like to sleep on soft fluffy clouds.  If you could actually sleep on fluffy clouds, that is.   Alexander never forgot he was there with Rodney.  Chanting his name as if it were the answer to all his prayers.

He would guide Rodney’s hands to where he wanted them most.  Moaning so softly it sounded like a purr.

Alexander would open his eyes and smile down at Rodney, moving back and forth, side to side. While Rodney gently stroke his nipples with his thumbs, just the way he seemed to want.

Rodney had never been with such a caring responsive partner. One that gave as well as took equally.

When they weren’t making love and they did that a lot, they attended Rodney’s conference together.

Alexander making comments or observations that raised Rodney’s eyebrows in astonishment.  He truly was smart.  Something Rodney found very sexy.

They always went back to Alexander’s hotel room to make love afterward.  The bald man somehow understanding that Rodney found his beautiful brain an incredible turn on.  Geeks did find other Geeks brains beautiful after all.

They left the outside world at the door.  Where for the moment it would stay.  They would be separated soon enough.  Too soon if Rodney increasing sadness was any indication.

The final day they made love with desperation Rodney had never felt before.  When they were done there were bruises on both their bodies.  He thought he saw tears in Alexander’s beautiful blue eyes, but he couldn’t be sure.  He’d thrown his head back and began to ride Rodney harder.  Harder than they had attempted during their week together.

Now Rodney eyed the Stargate with sadness.  He was going back to the Pegasus Galaxy.  To a world filled with danger, excitement, lots to see, learn and do, but no Alexander.  No Lex who he’d grown to love and wanted with every fiber of his being.  Something that rarely happened to a scientist of Rodney’s caliber.

Who became so lost in the world of science finding love was not a true option.  And something Rodney had given up hope of ever finding.  Till now.

But now there would be no more love, laughter or incredibly sexy scientific talk for Rodney.  No more Alexander for Rodney.

He thought his heart would break when he left Alexander’s hotel room to go back to his.  Time truly and finally up. They had kissed, gently, passionately, before Alexander had pushed him out the door with a softly voiced command of ‘Go.’  Blue eyes once again lost and so very, very sad.  It seemed to Rodney they had been shimmering with tears before the door closed.

Rodney sighed softly.  He didn’t want to go back to Atlantis.  Well, he did but not without Alexander.  He loved him.  Loved him with a passion that rivaled his need to go back to Atlantis.

Walking up the ramp Rodney stumbled, feeling as if his heart would break.  He couldn’t do it, he just couldn’t, not without Alexander.   But if he turned back and Alexander didn’t want him the same way Rodney wanted him?  What then?  So lost in thought he almost didn’t hear the voice calling out to him.

He turned.  His eyes widened in astonishment as he eyed the man in military issue clothing walking toward him.  “Lex? What are you doing here?”

“You called me Lex.”

“Momentary aberration,” Rodney told him, waving an impatient hand.  “What are you doing here?”

“Money, power, influence.  They can get most anything on the planet including a trip to another galaxy, if you use then to advantage.”

“This is what you want?”  Rodney asked, hopefully.  “To go with me?  I’ll stay here on Earth with you.  I was going back.  I swear I was.  Well, if you wanted me, that is.”

“I know.  I say your hesitation.”

Rodney frowned, taking in the rather smug look on the pale face.  “You thought that was because of you.”

“I know it was.”

Rodney sighed.  “Yeah, it was.  I need to talk to you, but later.”  He said looking around the crowded room.  “Are you sure you want to go with me?  It can be rather harsh where we’ll be going.  If you truly want to go, that is.”

“More than anything I’ve ever wanted in my life.  To be with you and exploring the lost city of Atlantis.  A scientist dream.  But most of all I want to be with you.”

“Are you sure?”

“Oh, yes.  Surer than I have been about anything in my life.  I need to talk to you as well, when we have a private moment.”

Rodney stared into blue eyes shining with hope, feeling that same hope in his heart. “Are you sure you want to go, Lex.  Please be sure.”

“I am.  I’d have to be brain dead not to want going with you.  I have nothing of meaning to stay for here.  In Atlantis I’ll have you.  All the meaning I could wish for and more.”

“Oh, Lex, thank you.  I feel the same way. If you’re sure, let’s go.  You’re going to love Atlantis,” Rodney told him, smiling happily.  “Really you are.  Are you ready?”

“Yes, I’m ready.”

Together they stepped through the Event Horizon, into another universe.
