Meeting Aunt Mae

“She’s gonna hate me.  I know she is.”

Xander smiled at Spike as they waited for the door to his mother’s house to open.  It was just after sunset and the stars were already making an appearance.  So it was safe for Spike to be out without the threat of becoming a crispy critter.

“No, she’s not.  She’s gonna love you.”

Spike looked at him, blue eyes darkening in worry.  “It’s my clothes ain’t it?  Do I have time to change?  I gotta a green shirt that would match these leather pants better.  Do I got time to change.  Give me a ride back to the crypt, ya?  So I can change.”

Xander chuckled softly.  “Don’t worry.  She’s gonna love you.  Wait and see.”

“My hair.  Oh, my freaking God-I forgot to comb my hair,” The vampire said, nervously.

Xander looked at the stiffly combed back locks of blond hair.  “Your hair is fine. Quite panicking .  Aunt Mae is going to like you.  Really.  I’ve never seen you so nervous,” he chuckled softly.  “It’s kinda cute.”

Spike frowned at him.  “Are you makin’ fun of me?”

Xander shook his head, biting his lower lip.  “Never.”

“Better not.  Or you don’t get sex in two weeks, when you’ve made enough blood to make it worth my while.”

Xander pulled the unresisting vampire to him.  “I don’t see why you can’t fuck me.  I’m going to go through Spike withdrawals by the time you think I’m ready.  You could at least show me your fangs.” He said resentfully.

Spike buried his head against the human’s neck, breathing in the rich, clean scent of him.  “Going through Spike withdrawals is better than turning.  And you know you’re gonna try and convince me to bite you.”

Xander held Spike’s head against his flesh.  Wanting more, needing more.  “Spike, please.  It’s not to late, we can go back to my apartment.  You could fuck me without biting me.  I swear I won’t ask. Please?”

“No.”

“How about if I say pretty please with a cherry on top.”

Spike chuckled evilly against Xander’s neck.  “I got that two weeks ago.”

Xander pushed the vampire away.  “Oh, now that’s just mean and crude.”  He smiled at Spike. “and damn sexy as all get out. You won’t change your mind?”

Spike shook his head.  “No.  Ring the fucking bell again and let’s get this over with.”

Spike spotted her first as they made their way through family and friends.  Even Buffy and Willow were here.  Told to go along with the ‘gay coming out thing’ for the sake on not embarrassing Aunt Mae.  Who they all loved and adored.

She was sitting on the couch talking quietly with Dawn when Spike first spotted her.

“That’s her, ain’t it?”

Xander looked over to where Spike was avidly staring.  “Yes.”

“She’s beautiful,” Spike said, awed.

“If you think she’s beautiful now you should have seen her when she was younger.  She was a knock out.  Even if she’s my aunt.  Won a couple of beauty contest, too.”

“She’s going to hate me,” Spike said in despair.  “I just know she’s gonna hate me.”

Xander frowned at him.  “What makes you think she’s going to hate you?”

The vampire looked down.  “Everyone hates me,” he said with such vulnerability it touched Xander deeply.

“That’s not true.  I don’t hate you.”

Spike gave him a small smile.  “Ya?”

“Ya.  I like you a lot.”

Spike scoffed.  “You just like what I can do to you,” he said, but nevertheless feeling lots better.

“Spike?”

The vampire looked at Xander curiously.  “Ya?”

“I liked you even before you could…”  Xander looked around the crowded living room.  “Before, you know,” he whispered.

Spike tilted his head as he looked at the human speculatively.  “Really?”

Xander nodded solemnly.  “Yup.  Wanna go met Aunt Mae now?”

Spike nodded.  “Yeah.”

Xander lead Spike through the crowds of people stopping them every few seconds to wish him a happy birthday and even a few a happy coming out party.

Finally…

“Aunt Mae?  I’m really happy you could make it.”

The greenest eyes Spike had ever seen looked up.  “Xander?  Oh, God Xander-I haven’t seen you in forever, my boy.  Come here so I can kiss you.”

Xander suffered through kisses to both cheeks, blushing brightly.  Pulling away.  “Auntie, I have someone I want you to me.” Those beautiful green eyes looked over at the anxiously waiting vampire.  “This is Spike.”

“Come here, my boy.  Let me have a look at you.” Aunt Mae looked at Spike assessing.  “A bit pale.  You need to spend more time out in the sunshine.”

“That’s what I kept telling him but he won’t listen.”

Spike glared at him.  “Million laughs you are, ya.”

Xander ran the forefinger of his left hand across Spike’s cheekbone.  “Ya,” he replied softly.  Watching as the vampire swallowed heavily, blue eyes blinking in surprise at the unaccustomed affection.

“Hmm…”

Aunt Mae watched silently for a moment.  “So, I hear your name is William.”

Spike took his eyes off Xander.  “Yes, ma’am.”  He offered her a shy smile.  “But call me Spike, everyone does.”

Aunt Mae smiled at him.  “Alright.”  She patted the spot Dawn had vacated only moments before going in search of something to drink. “Has my favorite nephew been treating you right?”

“Oh, Auntie,” Xander complained half-heartedly.

Aunt Mae smiled at him.  “Sit.  Besides I know how you get.  I just want to make sure you’re treating Spike right or I will have to take him home with me.  I may have to do that anyway.  He’s way to skinny.  Are you feeding him?”

“Hmm, yes Auntie.  But he doesn’t want to eat anywhere as much as I try to give him.”  Xander replied, smiling mischievously at Spike, who rolled his eyes. “I’d have him eating day in and day out.  All the time, but…” he sighed dramatically.  “he won’t listen to me.”

“Well, don’t take no for an answer.”

Xander turned to Spike.  “See.  Even my Auntie thinks you need to eat more.”

Spike didn’t have a comeback to that so he turned to Aunt Mae.  “The quilt you gave Xander is beautiful.”

Aunt Mae took his hand in hers.  “It’s for both of you.  Your hands are ice cold.”  She frowned as she looked at him speculatively.  “Are you feeling alright?”

“I…I…”

“He’s nervous, Auntie.  He thought you wouldn’t like him.”

Aunt Mae patted Spike’s hand.  “Of course I’d like you.  Xander wouldn’t pick just anyone to be his life partner.  Did I get the title right?”

Spike smiled at his.  “Yes, ma’am.”

She chuckled softly.  “See?  Even someone my age can be progressive.”

Xander kissed her on the cheek.  “Very progressive.”

“Has everyone is the family been treating you right?  Or do I have to do some ass-kicking?”

Xander gasped.  “Auntie,” he said in shock.  “My ears, oh-how they burn.”

“Oh-please,” She scoffed.  “As if you haven’t heard cussing before.”

“Not from you.”

Spike chuckled softly.  “I really like your aunt, Xander.  She’s cool.”

“See, Spike thinks I’m cool.”  She looked at Xander.  “That’s a good thing right?”

Xander nodded. “It’s a very good thing.  Spike doesn’t like just anyone.”

Aunt Mae smiled at the vampire.  “I’m glad, because I really like you too.  So, Spike tell me about yourself.”

Hours later Spike and Xander left Xander’s mother’s house with a full tummy and a warm happy fuzzy feeling.  At least on Spike’s part.

“She liked me,” the vampire said, softly as if unable to believe it.

“I told you she would.”

Spike turned looked at Xander as they walked back to Xander’s apartment.  “She’s making me a quilt.  Can you believe that?  She actually making ME a quilt.  Me very own quilt.”

Xander chuckled.  “I heard.  That’s really cool.”

“Ya.  She said if I ever make it to Greenville she’s teach me to quilt.”

“Gonna take her up on it?”

“Maybe,” Spike told Xander defensively.  “Got a problem with that?”

“No problem.  Can I watch?”

“What?”  Spike asked, kicking a rock on the sidewalk into the street.

“It’ll be the first time in our planet’s history that one of the deadliest creature known to man was learning quilting from a eighty year old women.  I gotta watch.  Maybe even video tape it for posterity.”

“Xander?”

“Yes, Spike?”

“Do you wanna have sex anytime in your near future?”

“Why yes, Spike.  Yes I do.”

“I see a video camera anywhere near your Aunt Mae and me…”

“I get your point.”  Xander told him hurriedly.

Spike turned toward him giving him a brilliant smile.  “I thought you would, lover.  I thought you would.”
